1. France Medical Device Trade Shows
In 2023, the French MedTech market generated an estimated €32.5 billion in revenues, including €10,6 billion in exports (+4.3% annual growth).
France is the second-largest market for medical devices in Europe, just after Germany.
Around 1,393 medtech businesses were identified in the same 2023. 93% of them were SMEs, accounting for almost 84,000 direct jobs, 100'000 if we include subcontractors.
International firms accounted for 25% of the businesses in France and two-thirds of revenues generated by the sector in 2021. Over 85% of businesses in the sector are of French or European origin.

2. Switzerland Medical Device Trade Shows
Here are the key data points about the medical device market in Switzerland for 2023-2024:
- Number of companies: Approximately 1,400 enterprises in the medical technology sector.
- Sector growth: Revenue has increased by over 6% over the past two years, which is about twice the growth rate of nominal Swiss GDP during the same period.
- Employment: Around 67,500 employees in the sector. The industry has created approximately 20,000 new jobs over the past decade, with 4,200 of those in the last two years alone.
- Revenue of the medtech sector in Switzerland: CHF 20.8 billion in 2023.
According to the OECD, Swiss healthcare spending reached 11.9% of GDP in 2020, with per capita spending on healthcare higher than any other country in Europe.

3. Belgian Medical Device Trade Shows
The Belgian medical equipment and supplies market had an estimated value of $3.4 billion, excluding exports.
- Number of Companies: Approximately 200 companies are active in the medical device sector in Belgium, with around 80 located in Wallonia.
- Employment: The sector employs nearly 17,000 people in Belgium. In Wallonia, there are about 5,000 full-time jobs in this field.
Between 2021 and 2026, the market for medical devices is expected to grow by 5.1%, according to Fitch Solutions. And nearly 30% of companies plan to increase their investments over the next five years.
Belgium’s Social Security System, which includes its Health Care System, ranks among the most extensive and efficient in Europe.
